Three York College students have been awarded medals in the British Biology Olympiad, run by the Society of Biology. AS Level student Oscar Powell has been awarded a silver medal and A2 student, Nathaniel Little and Access student, Yiming Meng, were both awarded Bronze medals.
The competition is used to select the team to represent the UK at the International Biology Olympiad. Students complete a multiple choice paper and a written paper covering a wide range of material from A-level Biology specifications. Students who are successful in these rounds are Highly Commended, or they will win a bronze, silver or gold medal. The best students go forward to a final at Birmingham University where the UK team is selected.
Says York College Biology tutor, Louise Garrett: “The calibre of A Level students that enter the British Biology Olympiad is extremely high. Our students performed brilliantly and should be congratulated. Oscar has done especially well to gain a silver medal as he is an AS student and has only completed half of the material included in the papers.”Back to News Stories listing
