York’s moment to Shine!
Join in a once-in-a-lifetime chance to welcome the Olympic Torch and its inspirational Torchbearers to York on 19th and 20th June.
The route through York
On Tuesday 19th June, with an escort of cyclists leading the way, the Torch will leave York College around 5.25pm and arrive at York Racecourse at about 6.50pm. While on 20th June, the Torch will leave York Minster at 7.44am and arrive at the National Railway Museum at 7.55am.
Please be aware of rolling road closures operating 15 minutes ahead of the convoy and lasting for about 25 minutes (please allow plenty of time for your journeys).
Celebrations at York Racecourse
On 19th June at York Racecourse from 2.30pm, there will be a chance to try out all kinds of sports and activities for greater fitness, health and wellbeing. From equestrian sports to cheer-leading, all you’ll need to bring is a sense of adventure!
From 5.00pm -7.30pm, singer-songwriter Katy B will be headlining the stage acts at York Racecourse together with Britain’s Got Talent finalists Twist and Pulse, African drumming bands Umbu and Calabash and the University of York’s gospel choir Zamar.

York Explore Library Learning Centre (Library Square)
Acomb Explore (Front Street, Acomb)
or Tang Hall Library (Fifth Avenue, Tang Hall)
Tickets will be limited to six tickets per applicant, all young people aged 14 years or under must be accompanied by an adult and admission will be by ticket only.
