York College Hair & Beauty Competition

The annual York College Hair & Beauty competition was held at York College on Tuesday, 6th January and involved approx 250 full and part-time Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students. The event attracted local employers, with some acting as judges.

The competition included the following categories: Catwalk Make-up, Face Painting, Ladies Evening Style, Commercial Day Style, Ladies High Fashion, a School Links Level 3 Skills Challenge and a Total Look Team Event, based on the theme of TV Commercials.

“Each year the Hair & Beauty students at York College rise to the challenge of this competition. They are able to prove to themselves, and to employers, that they can use their skills effectively whilst under pressure. It is fantastic to see their training at college, and in the workplace, result in both technical and creative skills which are showcased in this competition.” (Denise Morrison, Head of Division for Hair & Beauty at York College)

The winning students go forward to a regional heat in Gateshead in February and the winners from the regional heat compete in the national finals to be held in Blackpool in March.
