Plumbing
student plays for National
Youth Brass Band of Great
Britain
A 16 year old plumbing
student at York College
has been selected to
play in the Cornet section
of the National Youth
Brass Band of Great Britain
and will play in a series
of Easter and Summer
rehearsals and concerts.
Samuel Lovatt, from
Heworth, has been learning
the cornet since the
age of eleven and enjoys
playing in the York Railway
Institute Band. He auditioned
for the National Youth
Brass Band of Great Britain
in November and found
out in February that
he had been successful.
He says: “It’s great
to play a musical instrument
and belong to a brass
band. At the moment I
rehearse two nights a
week as well as working
hard on my plumbing course
at York College. Playing
in the National Youth
Brass Band of Great Britain
will be a great experience
for me. I am also looking
forward to getting an
apprenticeship which
will make my life even
busier. I would love
to turn my cornet playing
into a career, playing
for a nationally acclaimed
brass band and then use
my plumbing skills as
a sideline!”
Samuel is looking for
sponsorship to help him
afford the fees involved
in taking part in the
National Youth Brass
Band of Great Britain’s
Easter and Summer activities.
If anyone is able to
help Samuel they should
contact the college on
tel: 01904 770400.
