Another
record year for A Levels
at York College
York College is proud
to announce its best
ever A Level results.
There were nearly 1400
A Level exam entries
this summer at York College.
The overall pass rate
was 99.1%, a significant
improvement on last year’s
results. This means that
York College’s A Level
results are above the
national average for
the sixteenth consecutive
year.

An impressive 59 A*
grades were achieved
and the college is delighted
to report that 35 A Level
subjects had a 100% pass
rate, including maths,
further maths and all
the sciences.
The college’s top achieving
student is Alex Stevenson
with a fantastic 4 A*s
(in Maths, Further Maths,
Biology and Chemistry).
Altogether 26 students
gained A or A* grades
in all of their A Levels,
including Rebecca Worth,
Helen Dickinson and Nigel
Poon who achieved three
A*s.

The college is very
proud to announce that
the following students
have received the necessary
grades to be accepted
to Oxford or Cambridge
Universities; Alex Stevenson
to study Medicine at
Trinity College, Oxford;
Rebecca Worth to study
French & Linguistics
at St Catherine’s College,
Oxford; Amy Parkin to
study English at Newnham
College, Cambridge; Erin
Meikle to study Geography
at St Catharine’s College,
Cambridge; Lucy Richer
to study Asian & Middle
Eastern Studies at Wolfson
College, Cambridge; Ben
Poulten to study Philosophy
at Wolfson College, Cambridge.

82 students were entered
for the new Extended
Project Qualification
(EPQ) over half of whom
passed with top grades.
The EPQ carries up to
70 UCAS points and has
been welcomed by universities
as it develops important
independent study skills.
Dr Alison Birkinshaw,
Principal of York College,
said: “I am absolutely
delighted that once again
we have beaten our previous
year’s A Level pass rate.
Our 99.1% pass rate,
the 59 A* grades and
the success of our students
are all testament to
the hard work, commitment
and dedication of everyone
at York College. We know
that these results will
give our students a real
advantage when they move
on to higher education
and employment and I
would like to wish them
all every success in
their future careers,
they really deserve it.”

The college has received
excellent vocational results
too, students have achieved
178 triple distinctions
out of a total of 448 National
Diploma achievements, which
is an impressive 50 distinctions
more than last year. These
results are equivalent
to three
As at A Level.”

progress to studying a
Higher Education qualification,
York College offers a range
of full-time and part-time
degrees at a fraction of
the cost of going to other
higher education establishments.
Bob Saynor, Assistant Principal
for Higher Education at
York College says: “Students
could save up to £4,000
a year if they choose to
study at degree level part-time
at York College. Particularly
in the current climate,
studying locally could
prove to be the best option
for many students.”
