York
College students climb
Snowdon for Guardian
Angels
A group of students
studying a Foundation
Degree in Community & Public
Services at York College
are gearing up to climb
Mount Snowdon at the
end of March, in aid
of the York District
Hospital Guardian Angels
charity.
The students hope to
climb Mount Snowdon dressed
as angels, to raise awareness
of the Guardian Angels
charity who offer high
dependency care for children
at York Hospital, allowing
sick children to be treated
in York rather than being
transferred to hospitals
elsewhere in the country.
Student Elie McKenzie
recently had a baby at
York District Hosptial.
She says: “When my daughter
was born, the standard
of care at the hospital
was excellent, and due
to some minor complications,
it was of paramount importance
that the facilities were
there to care for her.
As babies and young children
are vulnerable to illness
and infection, it is
crucial York hospital
has the equipment to
deal with them. As a
mother, I appreciate
how harrowing it must
be to have an ill child,
and I feel we all have
a responsibility to support
a wonderful charity devoted
to their care and recovery.”
Tutor Miranda Powers
commented that as part
of their course the students
have to show that they
are capable of self directed
learning: “They have
planned this project
themselves from start
to finish, making their
own decisions about which
charity to support, publicity,
risk assessment etc.
I am extremely proud
of them and have every
confidence in their ability
to do a fantastic job.
This is an excellent
cause and I hope people
will be generous in their
sponsorship”.
