York
College is now an approved
ACS Domestic Gas Certification
Centre
York College has invested
heavily in the latest
technologies to equip
its plumbing workshops
with the latest sustainable
gas equipment and has
undergone a rigorous
assessment process to
become an approved ACS
Domestic Gas Certificate
Centre in its own right.
Government legislation
requires plumbers to
be competent in all areas
of Gas installation and
specifies that they must
have an ACS Domestic
Gas Certificate as proof
of competence to carry
out gas installation
in the home.
As an approved ACS Domestic
Gas Certificate Centre,
York College can train
plumbers and also register
them for work under the
government’s certification
system, as well as assess
existing plumbers when
they renew their certification
(every five years). This
week Helen Baker (pictured),
who has recently completed
her NVQ Level 3 Plumbing
Apprenticeship course,
was the first York College
candidate to be assessed
for the ACS Domestic
Gas Certifcation at the
college.
Says Kevin Clancy, Head
of Division for Construction
at York College: “Becoming
an accredited ACS Domestic
Gas Certification Centre
means that apprentices
can receive training
and certification in
a One Stop Shop at York
College. Also, existing
plumbers no longer need
to find private centres
to re-register their
certification, they can
simply call in to the
college for assessment
and certification. Government
legislation will continue
to dictate how we use
energy in our homes and
York College is now in
a position to play its
part by using the very
latest sustainable energy
equipment to reduce the
country’s carbon footprint.”
