York
College Helping the Unemployed
York College is working
with Job Centre Plus
and VT Enterprise Guidance
Services on a range of
projects to help local
people who have either
been made redundant or
who are out of employment.
Responding to the need
for unemployed people
to retrain or upskill,
the college is offering
free courses in areas
such as customer service,
health & safety,
computing, food hygiene
and employability training.
There is also the possibility
of refreshing skills
or retraining in a new
sector such as construction,
health & social care,
business & administration,
support teaching & learning
in schools.
Says Louise Lawrence-Crockford,
Assistant Principal for
Employer Engagement at
York College: “We hope
people affected by the
current recession will
grasp this opportunity
to focus on their future
employability and come
to college to learn new
skills, or simply gain
in confidence whilst
refreshing old ones.
These free courses are
available to all and
can only help the unemployment
situation in York.”
Anyone interested in
finding out more about
these courses, which
are being funded by the
Learning & Skills
Council and the European
Social Fund, should contact
the Business Development
Unit at York College:
