York College Unveils New Government Financial Support to Students.
After an eventful few months following the discontinuation of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) and the Adult Learning Grant (ALG) for new students York College is now administering the new 16–19 Bursary Fund and Adult Discretionary Learner Support funds.
Glenn Miller, Head of Student Services, explains how students might benefit from the new funding systems: “Depending on their circumstances, age and course students may be eligible for financial help with some of the costs of their studies,” said Glenn.
“EMA and ALG are closed to new students starting a course in 2011, but are still available in certain circumstances to continuing students, however new students aged over 16 and under 19 on 31 August can apply to the new 16-19 Bursary Fund which offers a guaranteed bursary to students who fall into certain vulnerable groups or support with essential course costs. And childcare support is available through 'Care to Learn'.”
Glenn said that students aged 19 or over on 31 August should apply for Adult Discretionary Learner Support for help with course costs including childcare.
“The deadline for applying for childcare support if you’re aged 20 or over is 17th August this year,” he said, adding that application forms for all of the above are available from York College InfoZone. “Students wishing to get an application form or to discuss any aspect of the new finance arrangements can call the Infozone on
01904 770400.”
