York
Cares Awards Evening
Many York College students
have generously given
up their time this year
to help others by volunteering
for a wide range of activities
both in and outside college.
For those who have registered
with the ‘v Inspired’
scheme run by York Cares
at York University, their
efforts were rewarded
at an Awards ceremony,
held at Aviva.
Eight students
represented the college
at the ceremony, collecting
their ‘v50 awards’ as
a result of volunteering
for 50 hours this year
across a range of projects
including college ambassadors,
voluntary placements
arranged by the college
Placement Team, the Right
to Read Scheme, as well
as other personal projects
arranged by students
themselves. Many of these
students are well on
their way now to reaching
over 100 hours volunteering.
Sam Richardson has clocked
up well over 100 hours
volunteering through
his role as a College
Ambassador and voluntary
placements working at
a local veterinary practice.
He is looking forward
to his placement over
the summer at Minster
Equine and hopes to study
veterinary sciences at
university. Sam’s dedication
to volunteering led to
him being chosen for
an additional ‘Golden
Moment’ award where he
recounted his opportunity
to complete a dental
operation on a sick cat.
Sam says “My volunteering
made me decide that I
really wanted to become
a vet”.
