Winning Double Gold at National SkillBuild Final
York College is delighted to announce that painting and decorating student, Nathan Broxholm, and brickwork student, Jack Hall, have won gold medals at the National SkillBuild final, held in Wales. Their success means that they stand every chance of representing Great Britain in the next international World Skills competition, to be held in London in October next year.
The SkillBuild competition, organised by ConstructionSkills (the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry), showcases the high level of skills training undertaken by colleges and employers. It provides a benchmark for excellence.
Nathan Broxholm (aged 20) from Doncaster completed the Level 3 painting and decorating course at York College this summer. Nathan currently works for Bagnells Painting & Decorating in Doncaster.
Jack Hall (aged 19) is an ex-Selby High School pupil.
Jack completed the Level 3 brickwork course this summer as an apprentice for Barratt Homes in York he has recently become self-employed.
Both students would like to pay tribute to their tutors and employers for being so supportive throughout the substantial training period for the overall competition.
Says Kevin Clancy, Head of Contruction: “This is a major achievement. To have two winners in the national Skillbuild final is absolutely fantastic for the individual students and for the college. They have both worked tirelessly to achieve excellence in their respective trades and deserve this success. I would also like to pay tribute to their tutors for their unwaning support. We are all very excited and we are keeping our fingers crossed to see if they make it to the World Skills competition next year.”
