York College celebrates
Vocational Qualifications
Success
York College joined
in the national VQ Day
celebrations by hosting
a ‘Vocational Qualifications
Student of the Year Awards’
evening at which individual
students were recognised
for their hard work and
contribution to their
vocational courses. The
students were awarded
Student of the Year certificates
and a book voucher.
David Ellis, Head Teacher
from York High School,
gave a key note address
and a vote of thanks
was given by John Short,
Chair of Governors at
York College. The event
was sponsored by NCFE.
Dr Alison Birkinshaw,
Principal of York College
said: "At this time of
year it is important
to celebrate the success
of our vocational students.
The 24th June marks National
VQ Day, when Vocational
Qualifications are celebrated
all over the country.
This event allows us
to give Vocational students
the recognition they
deserve. York College
offers over eighty full-time
vocational courses at
four different levels
and these qualifications
can change lives and
take people on to the
next stage in their careers.
We see around 650 Vocational
learners progress to
university each year
and even more into employment.
The college has a large
number of highly skilled
staff and students working
in a wide variety of
vocational areas and
I am delighted that the
we can celebrate vocational
success and achievement
in this way."
