Unionlearn
Quality Award
York College has been
successful in achieving
unionlearn’s Quality
Award for its work with
the USDAW Trade Union
and the Skills for Life
Programme. Over 80 training
centres nationally hold
this award.
From 2003 York College
has been working very
successfully with Unionlearn
and USDAW (the Union
of Shop, Distributive
and Allied Workers),
who recommended the College
for the award.
Said Peter Amphlett,
Regional Development
Worker, Unionlearn: “The
Unionlearn Quality Award
is developmental and
aims to support providers
to reach the highest
possible standards of
working with unions.
It has been an interesting
and pleasurable experience
to work with York College,
who are committed to
working with unions and
union learners. “
Said Julie Ainsworth,
tutor: “Working with
the unions, and the Union
Learning Representatives,
across York has been
encouraging and very
positive. We have built
up a strong working partnership
promoting learning. Many
people have benefited
from this partnership
by gaining skills and
qualifications that they
might not have traditionally
accessed. “
Principal of York College,
Alison Birkinshaw, and
tutor
Julie Ainsworth
were presented with a
plaque by comedian Jo
Brand at the TUC conference
held at Congress House
in London on 11th June.
