Triple
SkillBuild success for
York College students
Three students from
York College triumphed
at the regional competition
of Skillbuild , the nationwide
competition for young
people training within
the construction industry.
Tested on both practical
skills and related knowledge,
the York College students;
Jack Hall (Brickwork),
Ben Flanaghan (Joinery)
and Nathan Broxholme
(Painting & Decorating)
are now hoping to progress
to the National final
in September, in Anglesey.
Designed to promote
excellence among young
people within the industry,
Skillbuild aims to raise
the profile of construction
skills and to demonstrate
the high level of skills
training undertaken in
colleges of further education
and independent training
organisations.
Jack Hall (age 19) works
for Barratt Homes. As
well as enjoying success
at SkillBuild, he recently
came second in the national
final of the Guild of
Bricklayers competition.
Ben Flanaghan (age 18
) is employed by J Webster
Joinery at Elvington
and
Nathan Broxholme (age
21) works for Bagnells
Painting & Decorating
in Doncaster.
Kevin Clancy, Curriculum
Leader for Construction
at York College said:
“To have three York College
construction students
excelling at the regional
SkillBuild competition
is absolutely fantastic.
They each demonstrated
the highest level of
skill in their respective
construction crafts,
and under real pressure
too. They deserve the
highest praise. We now
look forward to working
with the students as
they prepare for the
SkillBuild National final."
