Theresa
May Visit
Shadow
Work and Pensions Secretary,
Theresa May, visited
the college on 9th September
during a visit to the
city. She was accompanied
by Julian Sturdy, the
conservative candidate
for York outer.
After enjoying a working
lunch (provided by the
college’s catering students)
and chatting with members
of staff and students,
namely Lewis Ashton (Advanced
Diploma in Engineering)
and Kelly Simpkin (Child
Care), she was given
a tour of the college.
She said: “I am very
impressed with the new
college building and
the breadth of courses
on offer. One of the
key areas I am involved
with is youth unemployment
and young people getting
skills, training and
opportunities. There
is a real community side
to the college and it
is obviously perceived
as a facility which wants
to be responding to local
needs.”
Louise Lawrence-Crockford,
Assistant Principal for
Employer Engagement at
York College said: “Theresa
May’s visit helped to
raise the profile of
York College and the
contribution we make
to the city’s economy
as well as the important
work we do in preparing
young people for the
world of work.
