Summer Grieve-Knight
National Diploma in Production Arts (Technical)
Summer achieved a triple distinction in Production Arts (Technical) at York College and she is now progressing to a three year work placement with ITV.
Being unsure about progressing straight to university, Summer decided to apply for a work placement with ITV. She was up against tough competition for a place, with around 4000 applicants. Even though Summer was the youngest candidate to be interviewed, with others having post-graduate qualifications, her exceptional skills and driven personality meant that she won through the gruelling interview process.
Summer is absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work alongside producers, directors and managers from ITV's Childrens programming department in Manchester and, alongside this, she is able to study a foundation degree in Film and TV Production at the Northern Film School in Leeds.
Summer says: "I started out performing and quickly realised that I was more interested in back stage work. The Production Arts course was perfect, it was so practical, providing me with 'hands on' experience working on College productions. I gained employable skills, enabling me to volunteer at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York and then, towards the end of the course, I secured a job at the Grand Opera House in York. My College tutor was brilliant as she had previously enjoyed a career in television and was able to advise me. She helped me enormously with the ITV application and interview process. All of this has led me to this fantastic three year work placement with ITV. I am so excited about the future, knowing that I can continue to learn, gain more experience and actually work in the industry that I love."
