Staying
Safe @ York College
York College is taking
action on Safer Internet
Day (9th February) when
they highlight the dangers
of cyber bullying and
also launch the college’s
Anti-bullying Policy.
The message of the day
is ‘Staying Safe @ York
College’. Students will
receive information during
tutorial sessions as
well as having direct
access to a range of
support agencies and
guidance via a new site
on the college intranet.
Plasma screens will promote
this information service
and details of help which
is available from external
agencies such as the
Local Safeguarding Children’s
Boards, the college’s
Equality & Diversity
and Health & Safety
teams, as well as the
many welfare services
offered by the college’s
Student Services team
eg Counselling.
Says Debra Fowler, Head
of Entitlement at York
College: “York College
takes the issue of bullying
very seriously. Whether
it be face to face or
on the internet, the
college has measures
in place to deal with
bullying. It is important
that our students are
aware of the dangers
and know to act quickly
if they suspect a problem.
By raising awareness
of the Safer Internet
Day we are trying to
reinforce this.”
Students will be asked
to ‘think before they
click’ on the internet
and also to consider
if they have hurt someone
by something they have
said.
