tutor
York College Skills
for Life Workplace Development
tutor, Julie Ainsworth,
has been short-listed
for a 2009 LSIS STAR
Award for her outstanding
contribution to learning
and skills.
Funded by the Learning
and Skills Improvement
Service (LSIS), the STAR
Awards celebrate and
reward the unsung heroes
who work in the further
education and skills
sector. The awards recognise
the hard work and dedication
of people who have truly
made a difference to
those around them with
their commitment, and
their ability to help
learners achieve and
exceed their learning
goals.
The short list comprises
over 100 nominees and
is representative of
the diversity of the
further education sector.
Nominees are from a wide
range of organisations
and represent all levels
of experience and expertise.
Julie is one of ten shortlisted
nominees in the Skills
for Life category.
Dr David Collins, chief
executive of the Learning
and Skills Improvement
Service said: “The people
short-listed for the
2009 LSIS STAR Awards
will have the national
spotlight shining on
them. They are providing
the skills that our learners
need to help them achieve
their full potential
and drive our economic
success. They should,
rightly, feel valued
to have been identified
as ‘STARs’.”
Nominated by Sue Christie,
says Julie Ainsworth:
“I am delighted and very
flattered to be nominated
for this STAR Award.
I belong to a very hardworking
team and I feel humbled
to be singled out in
this way. Win or not,
just to be nominated
is a real honour.”
Julie has already attended
a regional celebration
event for the short-listed
nominees at the City
Hall in Leeds. The overall
category winners will
be announced at a glittering
national awards ceremony
at Old Billingsgate in
London on Thursday 26
