Ryther Village Sign Project
A team of bricklaying tutors organised a live project, creating and building three village signs and some work on the village hall at Ryther near Selby.
Bricklaying students Damien Docherty and Joel Gardner helped to build the village signs, alongside tutors Harpal Sambhi and Robin Chappell. Stonemasonry tutor Paul Hill, with his students, carved the stone. The bricks were provided by York Handmade Brick Company and materials were supplied by the York branch of Keyline. Plants were donated by Poppleton Community Railway Nursery.
Said brickwork tutor Harpal Sambhi: “Projects such as this really help students to see how ‘live’ work needs to be planned and executed. It is good for students to have work experience outside of the College environment and work such as this can be placed on their CV’s, for future employers to see. Everyone involved fully enjoyed the project.”
