Primary School pupils inspired by York College
York College works alongside City of York Council targeting primary schools across the city to raise children's aspirations and dispel stereotyped ideas about what opportunities might be open to them in the future, putting on inspiring activities and making sure learning in the classroom links to later life. The experience is also about preparing children for the learning journey they will make at secondary school and beyond.
Pupils from five primary schools; Hob Moor Primary School, Burton Green Primary School, Derwent Primary School and Haxby Road Primary School visited York College to experience taster lessons and view the first-class facilities and resources. Also students from
York College have visited Westfield Primary School to chat with pupils about what it is like to be a student at York College.
Sophie Burr, Senior Schools and College Liaison Officer at York College said: “The College is pleased to be given the opportunity to show these primary school pupils exactly what it is like to enjoy studying post secondary school. It is important they feel excited about future learning opportunities and York College can offer them that inspiration.”
Steph Taylor, KS2 Career Related Learning Consultant at City of York Council comments: "I'm really happy to be working with York College on these events which really complement career-related learning. A key focus for me is to show children what they can achieve if they work hard, and the wide range of opportunities that are out there for them, so they feel excited about the future and inspired to learn. Seeing the College and finding out about courses they will never have imagined, will definitely support this."
