York
College Through to the
Final - Nestlé Toque
d’Or Competition
Six Catering & Hospitality
students are jumping
for joy after reaching
the Grand Finals of the
Nestlé Toque d’Or® competition,
to be held at the Live
BBC Summer Good Food
Show at the NEC in Birmingham
in June.
The students will be
mentored by Michelin-starred
chef Chris Horridge,
who has been assigned
to them for the finals.
Formerly of Cliveden
and Bath Priory, Chris
Horridge has joined the
ambitious 10 in 8 Fine
Dining Group which already
boasts Alan Murchison
and Will Holland under
its umbrella brand.
The Nestlé Toque d’Or®
is the most prestigious
college Catering & Hospitality
competition, attracting
college entries from
England, Ireland, Scotland
and Wales. After the
final the York College
team will attend a prestigious
awards ceremony. This
will be an Oscars style
event with the winning
college being announced
on the day.
Said their tutor Martin
Halliday: "I cannot put
into words how inspiring
this is for the college.
Our students will be
allocated a day at the
BBC Summer Good Food
Show to manage their
‘place to eat’ dream
concept; "REVIVAL",
serving one hundred covers
in the live show at the
NEC Birmingham. The students
will be visitors and
VIP guests of the BBC.
To be selected to take
part in the final is
an exceptional achievement
and they will attract
a great deal of media
attention. It will be
a fantastic experience
for them all. I believe
that our team has a real
chance of winning the
ultimate prize!"
The York
College winning students
are Antony Johnson, Sam
Hood, Chloe Boyes, Michael
Saunders, Amanda Shackell
and Ellen Connor.
