Students host the largest Coffee morning in the world in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support
Sixteeen York College students studying a National Diploma in Travel & Tourism joined in the national fundraising campaign to host the largest coffee morning in the world, in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The coffee morning, held in the college’s Ashfields restaurant , was attended by students, staff and visitors. The event provided a perfect opportunity for the students to fulfil a practical module of their coursework, entitled ‘conference, events and exhibitions’. They worked on the practicalities involved in organising an event including advertising and fundraising ideas, organisation of games and a tombola with prizes, aswell as the coordination of the catering.
Travel & Tourism student Natalie Tanner would ultimately like to work in event management. She said: “This event has given us experience in organising a big event with a national profile. We have worked alongside the Macmillan Cancer Support organisation to make it a success. As a group, we have had to communicate on many levels to make sure that all goes smoothly. The event went really well and I would like to thank everyone involved including visitors, staff and students who attended the event, raising much needed funds for a worthy cause.”
Deborah Pearson Travel and Tourism tutor at York College said: “The students organised the entire event themselves and they did a superb job. It has been an especially valuable experience for those students who wish to go on to study Event Management. The great news is that the event raised a total of £280 for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
