Leos
Plant 2,000 spring
bulbs at York College
Members of the York
College Leos Club (the
youth branch of the
Minster Lions) gave
up their time during
half-term to plant
2,000 spring bulbs
on the York College
campus.
George Bennett, Leo
Advisor for Minster Lions
said: "When my mother
died earlier this year
my Aunt, Jenny Thomas,
gave a £100 legacy to
do something for the
community in her memory.
My mother was a keen
gardener and I thought
this would be a very
appropriate project.
I am delighted that the
Leos took on the challenge
of planting all the bulbs.
York College match-funded
the project and we were
able to buy 2,000 bulbs
plus the gardening equipment
for the students to use."
Said A Level student
Becky Worth, President
of the York College Leos:
"The Leos felt an empathy
with this particular
project and it is rewarding
to be actively involved
too. The bulbs will provide
people with a lot of
pleasure in the spring
time."
A Level student Yuchen
Liu said: "Volunteering
is important, it is about
giving something back
to the community and
also about enhancing
life."
