Launching A Level Human Biology at
York College
In response to student demand and to promote interest and engagement in Science,
York College is to offer A Level Human Biology from September 2011. The subject is widely accepted as a general Science A Level by top Medical schools and is a welcome alternative to straight Biology, for some students.
York College surveyed current A Level Science students and last month offered an A Level Taster session in Human Biology for prospective students, to find out if there was sufficient interest in the A Level course.
Says Science tutor, Jan Bull: “It was evident that many students were interested in Human Biology as an alternative Science A Level. The course is suited to students who wish to continue their study of Biology after GCSE. It is a challenging course, focusing on the human body. Students will find the subject matter interesting and easy to relate to. We will cover topics such as cell structure and how blood is used to demonstrate good and bad health. Students will also study reproduction and the ageing process, which is fascinating.”
With this additional Science AS/A2 Level,
York College now offers forty-five different
A Level subjects, the widest A Level subject range available in the region.
