Company of Merchant Taylors Creative Bursaries 2010

The Company of Merchant Taylors has again supported York College students with Creative Bursaries up to the value of £250. The Creative Bursaries are to be used for the development of learners’ creative skills.

Helen Ventress, Head of Division for Art & Design said: “We are extremely grateful for the tremendous support our division has had from the Company of Merchant Taylors and the thoughtful way they choose to support our students. The Creative Bursaries will make a huge difference to the nine students who were nominated for the awards. The bursaries will impact on their portfolio, research, inspiration and ultimately their success.”

Tara Janeway

Tara has progressed to the National Diploma in Fine Art to the BA in Contemporary 3D Crafts. Tara exceeded her expectations in terms of work and creative ability this year and she will use the bursary for specialist materials and equipment, a digital camera and as a contribution towards a European study research trip.

Georgina Laverack

Georgina is in her second year of the Foundation Degree in Fashion. She is an exceptional student who has achieved high grades in all her modules. Georgina is a single mother who has managed her time demands extremely well. She will use the bursary for a research trip to Florence, materials for the end of year show and printing costs for illustration work.

Jodie Hazel

Jodie progressed from the First Diploma to the National Diploma in Fine Art. She achieved the top grades in her group this year and applied herself and demonstrated a commitment to her creative work beyond the requirements of the course. Jodie will use the bursary to purchase a portfolio case, drawing materials and a digital camera.

Gemma Aldridge

Gemma progressed for the Foundation Degree in Fashion to the BA in Fashion course. She adapted well to the course and showed a dedication to her work that is exemplary. Gemma will use the bursary for research materials and development costs for her final major project, towards research trips to Florence and London and also development of her digital portfolio.

Lewis Kelly

Lewis progressed for the Foundation Degree in Fashion to the BA in Fashion course. He has been a consistently strong student and his enthusiasm is infectious. His work is always original and of a very high standard. The bursary will enable Lewis to take part in the proposed study visit to Florence and will contribute towards fabric for his final major project as well as printing costs for his final portfolio.

Zoe Craven

Zoe is in her second year of the National Diploma in Graphic Design course. She made excellent progress in the first year of her course and her self-confidence has improved significantly. Zoe has limited access to information learning technology outside of the course contact hours. This funding would enable her purchase IT equipment, allowing her research to continue and develop.

Conner Slater

Conner is in the second year of the National Diploma 3D Design course. He has shown an exceptional ability to develop new skills and talents. Some of this work requires him to buy expensive consumable materials and he works in two part time jobs to enable him to do this. The bursary will allow him to purchase expensive animation software and Claymation materials to support his ambition to be a 3D animator.

Charlotte Griffiths

Charlotte is in the second year of the National Diploma 3D Design course. She is a committed and dedicated student who will succeed in her chosen area of silver smithing and Jewellery design. This is an area in which materials and equipment are expensive and specialised. The bursary will enable Charlotte to produce work of a more professional standard.

Neil Hart

Neil is in the second year of the Foundation Degree in Creative Media course. He is a consumer of digital media and is in the process of becoming a producer. Neil’s dedication and hunger for improvement is remarkable and he holds down several part-time jobs to support his studies. This bursary will enable him to buy IT equipment, including a HD video camera and associated software.
