Elin wins York College Psychology prize in memory of ex-student, Caroline Stuttle

York College student, Elin Box, has been awarded the Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation Psychology prize. The prize is presented each year in memory of ex-York College student, Caroline Stuttle, who was murdered during her gap year in Australia (April 2002). Caroline’s mother, Marjorie Marks-Stuttle, who set up the charity ‘Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation’ which aims to promote safety awareness for young travellers, presented 18 year old Elin with a certificate and £50 of book tokens.

Elin Box (an ex- Canon Lee School pupil) from Rawcliffe plans to study a psychology degree at Durham University. Her tutor, Andy Higgs has been impressed with Elin’s aptitude to the subject and performance in the classroom saying: “Elin has developed a quiet, determined attitude to her studies over the last two years that has seen her blossom into an outstanding student of psychology. She is not afraid to ask pertinent and relevant questions that often not only help her own progression but greatly assist other members of the class. I am convinced that Elin's attention to detail will stand her in good stead when she studies psychology at degree level.”

On hearing that she had been nominated for the award Elin said: "I was surprised and pleased. Psychology was a new subject for me when I started college so I didn't truly know what to expect but I've loved it from day one. I chose to do psychology because I'm fascinated by behaviour and the way the mind and brain work. The A Level course has been fantastic, I left each lesson wanting to find out more - so much so that in my second year at college I did an Extended Project on psycholinguistics. It was wonderful to be able to go in depth into a topic which really interested me and dissect it."

Marjorie Marks-Stuttle said: “Just like Elin, my daughter had a love of psychology. I am pleased to be able to present this award on behalf of the foundation, which in some small way will enable Elin to pursue a degree in the subject.”
