All applications are treated strictly on merit – after all, we want to appoint the best person for the job.

We are a “Good” college (OFSTED 2008) striving to be an “Outstanding College”. We are making excellent progress - in terms of our exam results, we are in the top ten percent Further Education Colleges in the country.   Indeed, our Level 3 outcomes for 16 - 18 students places us in fourth position nationally (based on 2009/10 outcomes).

To maintain and build on this success, we wish to recruit individuals who can help our students achieve their full potential. Whether you are employed directly with students, or in one of our support functions, you can make a difference to our students’ lives and future prospects.

To assist you in making an informed choice about whether York College is the right place for you, we hope that the following information will give you a flavour of what the College is about.

Some Facts

  • We are one of the major providers of education and training in Yorkshire and Humberside with an annual budget of c£30M.
  • We are financially strong, being rated “Grade A”.
  • In August 2007 we moved into a new purpose built campus on an attractive and accessible site (adjacent to the A64 and “Park and Ride”) on the southern edge of the City of York. At £60 million this is one of the largest single re-build programmes anywhere in the country and is a flagship for the sector nationally. OFSTED rate the college an “outstanding environment for teaching and learning”.
  • We have 6,657 students, of which 4,444 are full time. In addition we had over 800 students on Higher Education programmes and 122 International students.
  • We offer courses across the full range of Further Education provision, with the exception of Land Based Studies. The College has an extensive range of employer engagement activities. Strong links have been built with the business community over many years through our commercial and tailored training offer.
  • We employ over 900 staff. Of these, 650 are salaried - employed on a full time or fractional basis. We also employ around 300 part time variable hours staff, about half of which are teaching staff employed on a sessional basis.

Our Strategic Aims are to:

  • To achieve and then maintain student success that places York College in the top 10% of all colleges
  • To maintain the College’s financial health so that we have the financial resources to deliver our vision
  • To build our reputation and community confidence so that we are first choice for education and training in the area.
Our Values:

As a way of fostering learning, York College values:

  • all our students and their individual achievements
  • the commitment and professionalism of our staff
  • the highest standards in all that we do
  • working together to meet the needs of our College and the wider community
  • effective, efficient and appropriate use of resources
  • respect, equality and honesty
Our Community

The College has strong links with the local and regional communities. A number of local groups use College facilities for sporting or social/leisure activities. There are also commercial activities, available to the general public, which supports the work for the curriculum i.e. a nursery, a restaurant, hair and beauty salons and extensive sports facilities.

Equality and Diversity

The College has a strong commitment to equality and diversity. Making our courses and facilities accessible is a key consideration, and we are rated as “excellent”. Our work in this field has been used as an exemplar to other regional providers.

The Future

We are committed to the highest standards in everything we do. To achieve this, we will only recruit staff who share our commitment to excellence and who are prepared to work hard to ensure that we achieve our goals.

Our learners deserve the best possible education we can provide, and have a right to expect nothing less from us. So if you share our values and wish to become a part of what we are trying to achieve, we very much look forward to receiving your application.
