Who should attend the course and what are the benefits?

This two-day course is aimed at British business people who wish to learn some basic Polish in order to communicate with their Polish-speaking colleagues and associates. Benefits will include having a better understanding of some cultural differences between the two nationalities, coupled with being able to speak some basic Polish. This will demonstrate respect towards their colleagues and a willingness to develop better professional relationships within the workplace.

How will the course be taught?

The course will be teacher-led, interactive, functional and fun! Certain tasks will involve pair/group work and course content may be sourced from the internet, books, periodicals, videos and authentic materials. The teacher may also use some of her/his own work. All four skills will be practised, ie speaking, listening, reading and writing but with an emphasis on speaking and listening.

  • Polish sounds and pronunciation of the alphabet
  • Introductions and greetings
  • Formal and informal speech
  • Simple questions and ‘ice-breakers’
  • Small talk within the workplace
  • Jobs/professions vocabulary
  • Words used to describe people and well being
  • Understanding and giving instructions
  • Numbers 1-100


  • Important dates in the Polish calendar – festivals and traditions
  • Cultural differences in the world of work between the British and Poles
  • Polish lifestyles and hobbies

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Recognise and produce sounds of some letters and words
  • Introduce themselves and know how to greet people both formally and informally
  • Understand and produce basic phrases
  • Ask simple questions
  • Understand and give basic instructions
  • Count to 100
  • Use a number of simple words to describe a person and how they are feeling

As well as the above, course participants should have gained more knowledge of the Polish culture and have a greater understanding of the differences between the two nationalities.

The course will be led by a qualified and experienced native Polish teacher, who will use different teaching methods and strategies in order to obtain optimum results for learners.
