This course provides Data Protection Training to individuals responsible for Data Protection within their organisation. It is based upon the current Data Protection Act (1998) (DPA98) and the forthcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Is it for you?

This training course is ideal for anyone who will have responsibility for ensuring that their organisation meets the requirements of the DPA98 and GDPR but who are not Data Protection specialists, including:

  • People with a responsibility for data protection within a Small to Medium Enterprise (SME)
  • HR staff
  • Information Security / IT Managers
  • Managers with a need for oversight of data protection matters

What to expect

  • Understand the history of the DPA98, key definitions and the data protection principles
  • Understand the rights and exemptions of the current data protection legislation (DPA98) and how that translates into company working practices including data sharing and the right of access
  • Understand the role and powers of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
  • Understand how the forthcoming EU GDPR (due May 2018) will affect current Data Protection practices
  • Planning the transition of your own organisation from the old to new legislation and regulations
  • Understand how to process Subject Access Requests (SARs)

After this course you will have a clear understanding of the legislation and how it applies to your organisation.
