This apprenticeship is aimed at those working towards leading or supervising teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisation’s strategy. A Team Leader/Supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role. Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships both internally and externally. Roles/occupations may include: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager. Qualifications and End-Point Assessment Information:

You will develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours (know it, show it & live it) in relation to the aspiring role. During the apprenticeship you will develop the knowledge of managing organisational performance and delivering results through operational, project and finance management and interpersonal excellence in managing people and developing relationships. As a team leader / supervisor you will develop behaviours that include an inclusive, agile, professional and flexible approach to lead others. The final assessment and grading will be undertaken by the Independent Assessor. Marks will be allocated across the areas being assessed, with a maximum possible mark of 100.

The apprenticeship includes Pass and Distinction grades with the final grade based on the apprentice’s combined performance in each assessment activity.

Method(s) of delivery

Delivery will be in partnership with employers and adopt a blended approach of on and off the job training and professional development. Apprentices will receive training and mentoring in the workplace and knowledge, skills and behaviour development at York College through classroom and research based activities.

Are there any entry criteria?

Employers will set their own entry requirements, but it is expected that the individual would have worked within an operational role within the industry to start on this apprenticeship standard. There is a requirement to have literacy & numeracy skills equivalent to GCSE at grade C or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths.


Typically, this Apprenticeship will take 12-18 months

What next?

On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support their professional career development and progression.
