What will I study?
This is an exciting two-year course delivered through inspirational projects by tutors and practitioners in well-equipped studios and workshops.
During the two years you will have demonstrations and workshops to introduce you to the following subjects, techniques and processes:
Wood - carving and furniture
Metal - forge work, casting and welding
Ceramics - slab building, coiling, throwing and glazing
Mixed Media – mould making and plastic forming
Fine Metal - soldering, enamelling and jewellery
You may follow up subjects such as jewellery, furniture design, ceramics, theatre set design, product design, industrial design, car design, sculpture and crafts.
During the course you will work in sketchbooks and on design sheets to collate your ideas. You will also work in workshops and on Apple Macs to ensure your work is professional and well presented. You will have the opportunity to work on live projects with links to industry. You will build a portfolio of your own work for employment or higher education applications.
Throughout the programme there are educational visits to galleries, workshops, museums, exhibitions and places of specific interest to extend your awareness of the wide range of contemporary creative activity.
At the end of the course you will work on a Personal Project in a specialist area, which will be exhibited in the Creative Show for parents, practitioners and VIPs.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through continuous assessment of projects and assignments with constructive feedback through one-to-one tutorials.
There is a contribution of £75 a year towards materials payable at enrolment.
What could it lead to?
You can go directly into employment or continue to higher education in universities throughout the country or with York College.
