Tuition
Fees
If you are aged
between 16 and
24, you do not
have to pay fees
for a Work-based
Learning Apprenticeship.
Wages,
Tax and National
Insurance
If you are aged
under 19, you must
be paid at least £80
per week as an
apprentice; you
do not have to
be paid the national
minimum wage.
As an apprentice
aged 19 or over,
you do not have
to be paid at the
national minimum
wage for the first
year of your apprenticeship.
After you have
completed the first
year, your employer
will have to pay
you at least the
national minimum
wage (relevant
to your age). The
amount you are
paid will usually
reflect the skills
and experience
you already have.
As you are employed,
you will have to
pay tax and national
insurance contributions;
these are usually
automatically deducted
from your wages
and depend on how
much you are paid.
