Each
month the college
recognises a student
who has done something
exceptional; Jennifer
Guy has been chosen
as Student of the
Month for June.
Jennifer was nominated
for this award by
Carol Spencer (Travel & Tourism
tutor):
Jennifer is a Junior
Ambassador with YPSG
(York Parent Support
Group for Children
and Young Adults
with Diabetes), representing
children in the group
on the committee
and helping to organise
their events by publicising
them on Facebook.
Their main event
this year was the
sponsored ‘Walk in
the Park’.
She is also a volunteer
helper with Diabetes
UK, helping to bring
young ideas to the
group and share her
experiences of living
with diabetes. Jennifer
fundraises for the
charity through street
collections and the
‘Walk in the Park’.
Jennifer is the
student representative
on the National Diploma
in Travel and Tourism
and was instrumental
in liaising with
Cancer Research UK,
the group’s chosen
charity this year.
She took an active
part in the charity
quiz night in April
which raised £350.
In addition to these,
her studies and her
part-time job at
Boots, she also finds
time to help at New
Earswick Flower Club,
setting up on demonstration
nights, selling tickets
and organising raffles.
She has also made
the most of all of
the trips that have
been offered as part
of her travel and
tourism course, including
New York, Amsterdam
and Bruges.
