Counselling
What is counselling?
- Counselling offers an opportunity for you to talk and try and understand your difficulties.
- Counselling is about finding ways to help you to help yourself.
- Counselling can help you to manage and cope with the problem better, and work towards possible solutions.
Why would I want to see a counsellor?
There may be occasions during your time at college when you experience problems, feel under pressure and find it hard to cope.
It may be something to do with:
- Getting behind with your work
- Stress
- Relationship difficulties
- Bullying
- Not making friends
- Problems at home
- Eating problems
- Self harm
- Lacking confidence/low self-esteem
- Alcohol/drug problems
- Facing a decision
- Anxiety, panic, phobias
- Loss and bereavement
- Abusive experiences
- Any other issues, big or small.
Confidentiality
Our counsellors work within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework which includes confidentiality. Counselling is confidential, except in certain exceptional circumstances. These circumstances would usually be if you or someone else was at risk of being harmed.
To make an appointment
Appointments can be made by going to the InfoZone or by phoning 770/ext. 397.
Chaplain
The Chaplain at York College is the Reverend Chris Culwick. He is here to take an interest in the whole life of the college and to offer help and support to students and staff. He is happy to speak to people of any faith or those with no religious beliefs, on any aspect of life in or outside college.
