York is without doubt one of the UK’s most beautiful and historic cities. It is located in the north of the country and is close to the major metropolitan cities of Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester and is on the East Coast main line rail route which is a direct link to London and Edinburgh.
The centrepiece of the city is the York Minster, one of the largest gothic Cathedrals in Europe and the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office in the Church of England, which towers above a host of beautiful streets comprising of timber framed, overhanging buildings, many of which date back to the fourteenth century.
It is also on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, which is one of the country’s most visited national parks. The nearby towns of Whitby and Harrogate exemplify a bygone age and epitomise the region’s quiet beauty.
