York College played host to the Dulux Decorator Centre’s 2013 Apprentice of the Year competition, held in the College’s painting and decorating workshops. 

AS Level Geography students (Brandon Stock, Freddie Wells, Rebecca Richardson, Amelia Bell, Katrina Wellbank and Beth De Lacy) were proud to win a prize for presenting the best debate at Leeds University. The Leeds Geographical Association organised the debating competition on Global Development Goals. There were eight goals and eight schools participated in the debate; with each school arguing why the Global Development Goal they were given should be continued after the target date of 2015. 

Performing Arts students studying acting at York College have auditioned on mass for three of the region’s most dynamic production theatre companies; Pilot Theatre, Slung Low and York Theatre Royal, in their forthcoming collaborative production of ‘Blood + Chocolate’.

As part of their coursework first year Extended Diploma in Production Arts (Backstage Arts) students enjoyed working on a community project at Tesco, Askham Bar. Using their scenic art skills they designed and created a very large beach scene which can be seen on the back wall of the Tesco café.

York College Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition of paintings by Bernadette O’Toole called ‘Fold’.

Bernadette O’Toole’s work engages directly with the substance of painting. Aware of its history and discourse she explores new possibilities within its long trajectory. Her seemingly formal investigation of line, space and gesture propose an understanding of spatial relationships based on uncertainty and difference.
