York College is delighted to have a team of three hospitality students through to the national heat of the Nestlé Professional Toque d’Or 2018 catering and hospitality competition.
The York College team; Soraya Mason (Level 3 Professional Chef Diploma), Sophie Jordan (Level 3 Patisserie and Confectionery) and Chrysanthi Frakoulaki (Level 2 Professional Chef Diploma) are excited to be taking part in the most prestigious hospitality competition which attracts over 50 entries from colleges across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Having got through the initial digital entry round of the competition when the team was presented with a scenario to set up a pop-up restaurant, based on the concept of ‘good life/good food’, and produced a video to show their recipe and method, they have now secured a place amongst the final 24 entries in the national round, to be held in February/March.
The national competition, set in two locations over four days, will consist of a master class from both front and back of house industry experts, at which students will be shown a three course meal, wine and service. The team will then be challenged to replicate the meal, producing ten covers as part of a lunch service to guests of Nestle Professional. The six highest scoring teams will progress to the Grand Finals.
Karen Horsman, Team Leader for Catering and Hospitality at York College comments: “It is a great achievement to get a team through to the first stage of the Competition, which motivates and inspires catering students. The competition provides exciting challenges to get the very best out of students and it is renowned for promoting the highest industry standards. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their skills and gain a wealth of experience.”
