Higher Education at York College
Choose a higher education experience that meets your needs
In 2012, 75 per cent of our students who graduated from our BA programmes achieved a first class honours or 2:1 classification.
York College provides a Higher Education experience that endeavours to meet your personal higher level skills requirements and is different from that found at Universities. We provide an extensive range of Higher Education programmes which are vocational, employment-related and taught by fully trained and specialist staff.
Programmes include Honours Degrees, Foundation Degrees, Higher Nationals, and professional qualifications such as AAT Level 4. Students learn in an environment that prepares you for employment or further study, or helps gain the required skills to progress within employment in a culture of high expectations and ambition.
All our programmes will have above average levels of contact with teaching staff and this has generated excellent levels of satisfaction amongst our students.
We equip students with the research and study skills, as well as the confidence and self-discipline, which help them grow as independent learners with a lifelong appetite for education.
This is underpinned by a pastoral system which quickly identifies when a student is not fulfilling their full potential, and to challenge and support them to succeed.
Part Time Routes
The College particularly welcomes part time students and this allows them to study at HE level whilst continuing to work and support themselves. Part time routes normally take an extra year to complete and require a serious level of commitment but are highly rewarding as students often apply new learning to the workplace.
HE Facilities
The HE Hub, a social and quiet working area in the Learning Centre, a range of dedicated HE computer and other specialist facilities as well as additional learning centre resources are available at the College to support HE students. In addition you will have access to support and resources available through our partner Universities.
Save money
York College is charging fees of £6,000 for a full time course, and £3,000 for a part time course in 2012, so you could save £9,000 over the three years of an Honours Degree course. Student finance is available to cover these fees which will only be repayable once you complete the course and earn over £21,000 per year.
