Construction Centre 1 - Brickwork
Says Jack Wardell, formerly Huntington School, Level 3 Bricklaying: “I like bricklaying, it's an art really. I get on ok with the practical and the theory, although I enjoy the practical side more. I am looking to get a job as an apprentice when I finish my qualification.”
Says Greg Frain, formerly Millthorpe School, Level 3 Brickaying: “The tutors are good at their jobs. I want to lay bricks as fast as I can, the quicker you are the more money you can earn.”
Says James Wilson, formerly Joseph Rowntree School, Level 3 Bricklaying: “I was a labourer in my uncle's business but I was laid off due to the recession, and that was when I decided to come to College and learn a trade. Work is picking up now and I intend working for my uncle, but this time as a bricklayer. My younger brother is doing the same as me, he is currently in his second year at College. Eventually we all hope to work together in the business.”

Construction Centre 2 - Joinery
Says Matthew Turnbull (formerly Norton College): “I am in my first year of the full-time site joinery course. I started studying A Levels but decided that I did not want to go to university. I decided to take up the joinery course and I am pleased that I did. I managed to get an apprenticeship with Ryedale Joinery Services and I attend College one week a month, on average. The facilities here are ideal, there is everything you need to learn the trade.”
Says Ryan Wright (formerly Malton School): “I always wanted to learn joinery. Coming to the York College Construction Centre at Osbaldwick for the last two years has given me a new circle of friends.”
Says Reece Johnson (formerly Canon Lee School): “I am a third year site joinery student and an apprentice with Yorvik Homes, with only a few weeks to go before I complete my course. I am now looking forward to working in the industry. I have enjoyed learning my trade at College and I have made friends too.”
Says Matthew Smith (formerly York High School): “I am in my second year of the full-time site joinery course. At the York College Construction Centre I have been able to learn all the necessary skills I need. I especially like the practical side of the course and getting to grips with all the different joinery tools.”
