Work Focussed Training

Are you aged over 19 years?

Have you been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for more than six months?

Are you interested in taster courses for a different career, or would you like to brush up your existing skills for free?

Since June 2009, York College has been delivering Work Focussed Training for those who have been unemployed for six months or more. The programme features the following areas:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Customer Service
  • IT

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme, however you must show a commitment to study on the chosen course and be actively seeking work in that area. You will need the study skills to progress on the programme which will be discussed at your induction session.

For entry onto the IT course you must have a basic knowledge of using a computer.

For entry onto the Health and Social Care course you must be suited to a career in this industry.

Requirements for each individual course will be discussed at the induction.

How to apply

Visit your local Jobcentre Plus office and ask them to refer you to York College Work Focussed Programme, requesting which course you are interested in. The Jobcentre Plus advisors will contact us and arrange an induction date at which you will enrol onto your chosen course.

Induction

Group inductions normally last three hours and you will be able to find out more about your chosen course. Your eligibility will be checked and you will have an opportunity to ask questions before commencing the course.

After Training

It is expected that you will be job searching alongside your training. If successful in finding work in a related field our team will be happy to explore how you can build on your work focussed training to further develop your skills by completing and NVQ programme.

Visit your local Jobcentre Plus for more information.
