Information for
Employers
Apprenticeships
are Work-based
Learning programmes
which incorporate
several different
qualifications,
including an NVQ,
into an overall
framework.
Our
assessors will
come out to your
workplace, at times
negotiated with
you, to ensure
minimal disruption
to your business,
and your employee
will attend college
part-time to learn
the theory underpinning
the job. As an
employer, you will
receive regular
updates on how
your member of
staff is progressing
on the programme.
Your employee will
learn while working
to build her or
his knowledge and
skills, gaining
qualifications
and experience.
Apart from the
NVQ, she or he
may also complete
a technical certificate
and Key Skills
qualifications.
There are different
levels of Apprenticeship
available, but
they all lead to
nationally recognised
qualifications
tailored to meet
industry standards.
Apprenticeships
can now be taken
at any age from
16+, meaning that
they are available
to all employees.
What are
the entry requirements?
You must have
a job that matches
your chosen Apprenticeship,
and the enthusiasm
and commitment
to undertake learning
while working full-time.
Applicants must
be employed for
at least 30 hours
per week (this
can include time
spent at college
undertaking training)
and live in England;
they should not
have a degree or
be taking part
in any other substantial
government-funded
programme.
All
applicants must
attend, and be
successful at,
an interview and
guidance session
with York College.
Applicants for
Children’s’ Care
must provide references.
Applicants for
Plumbing, Electrical
Installation and
Construction Crafts
will have to complete
an aptitude test,
and there may from
time to time be
similar tests for
other subjects.
Your employer must
pass a York College
workplace inspection
to check that they
meet Health and
Safety requirements.
