Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce

What You'll Need

Experience of working/volunteering in the Children and Young People's Workforce for a minimum of six months. Opportunity to work in a Level 3 role. GCSE Grade C in Maths and English. An application form must be completed and an interview will be required.

Duration and Attendance

Precise times and dates for programmes staring in 2013 will be published in due course.

What You'll Do

Mandatory Units
Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
Understand child and young person development
Promote child and young person development
Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people
Support children and young people's health and safety
Develop positive relationships with children, young people and others involved in their care
Working together for the benefit of children and young people
Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
Context and principles for early years provision
Promote learning and development in the early years
Promote children's welfare and well being in the early years
Professional practice in early years settings
Support children's speech, language and communication.


Additional Home Study

A minimum of two days per week work placement in an appropriate setting will be required.
Students need to allow for an average of four hours home study per week.


Exams and Assessments

The units are assessed by written tasks and assessment in the workplace.
Students can then select between three and six optional units appropriate to their job role.


Qualifications

Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce - Level 3.

How to apply

Applications should be made to the college. All students will be required to have an interview with the course tutor prior to enrolment on the course.

How You Can Progress

On completion of the course a lot of students take up employment as Teaching Assistants in Schools and in time progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistants.
