Basic Italian for Your Holiday
Two hours of basic Italian, introducing you to essential phrases to help you get by with shopping, ordering meals and finding your way around on your Italian holiday. Suitable for absolute beginners and those with very basic knowledge of Italian who wish to brush up on their knowledge.
Basic Greek for Your Holiday
Two hours of basic Greek, introducing you to essential phrases to help you get by with shopping, ordering meals and finding your way around on your Greek holiday. Suitable for absolute beginners and those with very basic knowledge of Greek who wish to brush up on their knowledge.
Beginners British Sign Language (BSL)
A two-hour introductory taster session to get you started on BSL, including basic greetings, numbers and introducing yourself. Suitable for complete beginners with no previous experience of BSL.
Making the “perfect” Gateaux
Have you ever wanted to make your own fresh fruit gateaux and be the envy of all your friends? Come and join us for the morning and go home with a cake to die for. You’ll find out how to make a genoese sponge, decorate with chantilly cream, fresh fruit and chocolate to complete a lovely gateaux that you can then take home.

An Introduction to Hairdressing
An introduction to the adult hairdressing course here at College. Attendees will work on mannequin heads, carrying out basic hairdressing skills including curling and plaiting. Students will then be taken on a tour of the provision and our facilities.
Paraffin Wax Application with Hand Massage
You will be carrying out a treatment as this will give an insight into what can be carried out in classes. A demonstration of a paraffin wax hand treatment will be carried out and you will have the opportunity to have this carried out on you. You will practice on each other and swap over. You will then be taken on a tour of the Beauty Therapy Department.
Experience play from a child’s perspective - ONLY 8 SPACES LEFT
Talk and discussion on careers in childcare, with practical activities to be experienced through a child’s eyes. This session will cover Careers Working with Children, Advice and Guidance and the Importance of Play and Learning. Some practical activities will be ‘messy’!

Introduction to Print Making - ONLY 1 SPACE LEFT
Come and create an edition of beautiful prints using the versatile technique of drypoint etching.
Introduction to Dressmaking - NOW FULL
Come and create a garment to take away using some of the industrial methods used in fashion manufacturing. Students learn create a ¼ scale skirt during this two-hour taster session.
Pottery (throwing a pot) - NOW FULL
You’ve seen it on TV - now experience it first-hand! Come and learn how to throw a pot using the potter’s wheel!
Introduction to CAD
CAD has moved on a lot from the early days, where cumbersome software replaced the drawing board in the design office. Modern 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks (which seems to hold the dominant position currently, amongst the many types available). Now, designs are created as virtual 3D parts, that can have realistic materials applied, be rotated on the screen (and even sectioned to see what they look like inside etc.). These can then be built into virtual assemblies and drawings created from the part and the assemblies at the click of a few buttons. The parts can also be saved as a file that can be 3D printed or sent to a CNC router or miller.
You don’t need any prior knowledge to attend. This is a hands-on course, and you will be guided through step-by step.
Mini Health Clinic
A session aimed at providing a mini health check. You will have your blood pressure measured, calculate your BMI, discuss weight control and learn the benefits of well-being and a healthy lifestyle.
Career Advice drop-in session
We are also running a career advice drop-in sessions whilst the event is running. It will take place 9.30am - 12pm in the College Atrium.
Terms and Conditions
The Adult Learning Taster Morning sessions are free; however, you may need to supply additional items to take part in the session. Please see the above descriptions for more information.
Please only register for one course, as each course will run for the full two hours.
Registration for the Adult Learning Taster Morning will close at 12 noon on Thursday 2nd May 2019.
Each taster session has capacity limits and so registering for the sessions will be on a first come, first serve basis.
This event is intended for adults only, to enrol on any of our adult courses you must be aged 19 or above on the first day of your course.
Please feel free to attend on the morning without registering for information and advice on the Adult Learning courses available, but please note you might not be able to attend a taster session if the session is full or if it has been cancelled prior to the day.
