Re-making Leeds

The Re-making Leeds project is funded through the Heritage Lottery and aims to address several heritage construction skills shortages. As part of this project partners aim to deliver a range of short courses.

Structural Joinery Roofing

This programme will be delivered by York College and is aimed at those keen to understand and develop the skills in preparing a traditional cut roof:

  • Session one covers theory and preparation
  • Session two cover preparation and practical application
  • Session three covers further practical application
  • Programme Content

  • Roofing structures
  • Component members of a traditional hip and valley roof
  • Producing a geometric working drawing of a hip and valley roof
  • Tools required to construct a hip and valley roof
  • PPE required for roof construction
  • Hazards associated with roof construction a suggest control measures
  • Setting out and constructing a traditional roof using geometric methods
  • Introduction to roofing squares
  • Applying roofing squares to the geometric drawing
  • Applying roofing squares to timber, calculating lengths and angles
  • Programme Delivery:

    Venue: Temple Newsam, Leeds
    Delivery: Tuesdays for 3 weeks
    Attendance Dates: 6th, 13th & 29th June 2017
    Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm each day


    Price: £175.00 per individual*

    £25.00 per individual if you work in construction and are elligble for funding*

    *For businesses that employ less than 250 people there are part funded places on this programme at £25.00, funded by the Heritage Lottery Funded Re-Making Leeds project please contact us to discuss.
