Full-time schools leavers courses (including Work-based Learning)

When can I apply?

You can apply after the October half-term and we would advise that you send in your application as soon as you can and no later than the Easter holidays to have the best chance of securing a place on the courses you have chosen. Please note that we will still accept applications that we receive after the Easter holidays.

If you are undecided about which courses to apply for, come along to our Open Events and Taster Days to speak to tutors and try out courses for yourself. For any further information please call the Schools Liaison Team on 01904 770239.

Step 1 - Complete an application form

As soon as you have decided on your choice of course/s you can fill in an application form (your Head of Careers will tell you whether you need a paper application form or if you need to apply online). Pupils in many York schools, and some other regions, will be able to apply using the Common Application Process (CAP). This is a system of electronic application forms and can be found by visiting nyork.futures4me.com. Your school will advise you as to whether you should use this system. Otherwise application forms are available in school (ask your Head of Careers), from Connexions Advisors or from York College and you can also download a form below.

For full-time courses you will need to complete a Full-time application form. It is important that you use the guidance notes attached to the application form. For Work-based Learning courses (Apprenticeships) you need to complete a Work Based Learning application form. Should you require any assistance please contact us on (01904) 770445 and we will be glad to help. Please don't worry if you are still a little unsure about your course choice. The courses you put on your application are just a starting point and we are aware you may want to make some changes over the coming months. Please complete the form as carefully as you can.

Step 2 - Acknowledgement of application

When we receive your application, we will acknowledge it promptly. If you have not heard from us within 14 working days of sending your form, please contact the Admissions Team on 01904 770403/440/442 to check that we have received it.

Step 3 - Guidance interview

You will then be invited to a personal guidance interview. This is essential in order to establish the best learning programme for you, and in some cases may include some diagnostic testing. Following your guidance interview you will receive a conditional offer letter within 10 working days, your letter will detail the course/subjects agreed at your interview.

Adult Learning / Part-time Courses

Students wishing to apply for part-time courses that require a guidance interview should complete a part-time application form which is red and white and follow the attached guidelines. Adult students should choose an appropriate person to act as a referee such as an employer or professional who can vouch for their suitability as to this course of study. However, not all part-time courses require a guidance interview. Please check the part-time prospectus or call customer services on 01904 770400 if you are in any doubt.

International courses

Before you apply, it is important that you find out as much as you can about the courses which might be suitable, the College and its facilities and the tuition fees you will have to pay.

Applications to Higher Education courses (Higher National Diplomas and Bachelor degrees) should be made through the centralised UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application procedure.

Applications for all our other courses should be made on the College application form. When you send in your form, please send with it as much information as you can about your Secondary level school record and the subjects you have studied, together with copies of your examination results and qualifications. This will help us to advise you about the right course for you and, if you have the correct entry requirements, to send you an offer of a place.
